BPMD drop cover of “We’re An American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad
BPMD – the band with heavy metal icons Bobby Blitz (Overkill) on vocals, drummer Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo), bassist Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance) and guitarist Phil Demmel (Vio-lence, ex-Machine Head) – posted their cover of the Grand Funk Railroad classic “We’re An American Band”.
The song, which you can check out below as a lyric video, is the third single from BPMD’s debut album featuring 70s rock covers, “American Made,” which is officially released this Friday, June 12 via Napalm Records ( Pre-order).
Regarding the new cover, bassist Mark Menghi says:
The purpose of American Made was, and is, to pay homage to some of the great music of the 70s, especially American music of the 70s. We love music from all over the world; England, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Australia, etc … but at the end of the day we are an American band, so it made sense to pay homage to one of the biggest American bands of the 70s by covering one of the most great songs of this decade by the mighty Grand Funk…
Since this song was originally written to be on tour, we remember the days on the road and how much we miss our fans! Touring is the lifeblood of most bands – we can’t wait to put on shows and play those BPMD tunes, and see the music blossom again in a live setting.
Leader Bobby Blitz adds:
‘American Band‘, in my opinion was the icing on the cake of this project. The idea of American Made, the 70s demanded it. The song was iconic then and has truly stood the test of time. The call and response between my voice and Phil’s guitar on the outro makes the track even more special.
