BTS gets three nods at the American Music Awards, including Artist of the Year
SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — K-pop supergroup BTS has been nominated in three categories at this year’s American Music Awards, including for Best Artist of the Year for the first time.
In the 2021 AMA Nominations list released on Thursday (US time), BTS was recognized in the Artist of the Year, Favorite Duo or Group, and Favorite Pop Song categories.
It’s the first time the Korean boy band has been part of the fan-voted Artist of the Year grand prize at the AMA, one of America’s biggest musical shows.
The other nominees are pop powerhouses Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.
BTS is also up for the Favorite Duo or Group award along with American pop trio AJR, competing with Glass Animals and Maroon 5, and Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak).
His Billboard-winning “Butter” is one of five favorite pop song nominees, including Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license.”
The K-pop group has won at least one award at every AMA since entering in 2018. They have won Favorite Social Artist for three consecutive years, while they have won two Duo or Group awards. favorite in a row.
At this year’s AMA, American newcomer Olivia Rodrigo was the top nominee with seven, including Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year, followed by five-time AMA winner The Weeknd with six nominations.
