BTS to perform at American Music Awards, short of three awards
BTS is once again looking to make history this time around at the 2021 American Music Awards.
The supergroup are scheduled to perform twice at the show which will start at 10 a.m. KST, including once with Coldplay AND they are also up for three awards: Artist of the Year, Favorite Duo or Pop Group and Song. favorite pop for “Butter.”
The Billboard-winning song is one of five nominees for the award, including “drivers license” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Levitating” by Dua Lipa.
Over the weekend, “Butter” has already won this year’s Record of the Year award from American entertainment publication, Variety.
This is the second time the K-pop group has won a Variety award after winning the Group of the Year award last year.
Since their debut on American television, performing “DNA” at the 2017 AMAs, they have been nominated for nine awards.
In fact, of the six nominations before this year, the boy group won the last one.
But this is the first time they’ve been shortlisted for Artist of the Year, which is arguably the AMA climax voted by fans.
Other nominees include Drake, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift.
BTS has already made history as the first K-pop artist to be nominated for Artist of the Year at America’s Music Event, and Sunday’s event will be even more special because it’s all about of their first in-person appearance since the Grammy Awards. in February of last year.
