Indo-American Singers Face Off in Unique 3-Day Reality Show – Meri Awaaz Suno America
Dozens of talented singers and their families gathered for three days for a competition to choose the best of them at the 2nd Meri Awaaz Suno America Competition which took place May 10-12 at the Jo Ann Magistro Performing Arts Center in New Brunswick, NJ
Eighty-two contestants from 22 states in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom entered what was a highly competitive program that featured famous artists as judges. About 600 people came over the three days to enjoy and participate in the show.
âThis is a very popular competition and the largest of its kind – a Pan American event,â Tarang Soni, CEO of Jhoom Events, the main organizer, told Desi Talk. âThis has increased from last year, when we had 62 applicants from just 10 states in this country. And the quality of applicants has improved since last year, âadded Soni.
Singers were given the choice to sing in one of four categories – classical, semi-classical, Bollywood and folk.
The semi-final took place on May 10, where 10 singers from the adult and child categories were to be chosen. But because there was a tie between some of the singers, it turned out that there were 11 finalists each in the Adult and Child categories.
Despite the large number of applicants, the judges made sure to give each artist feedback, also giving them tips on how to improve. The organizers made sure that every competitor had an equal chance.
May 11 was spent organizing stage rehearsals for the final competition, Soni said. Those who won the semi-finals were interviewed by the media and were also briefed on the purpose of the competition, which was envisioned and initiated by Jhoom Events CEO Tarang Soni.
âI love to sing. It’s my passion. And since I was a kid I wanted to do something for those who have the passion but not a platform like this to show their talent,â Soni told Desi Talk , adding: “I also wanted to make sure it was a transparent competition where the judges were of the highest quality”,
The grand finale took place on May 12th where the top 11 in each category performed. They have been judged by renowned singers and performers Lalit Pandit (who has over 500 hit songs to his name, Soni noted), Parthosarthy Mukherjee, Prashant Soni and Parmjit Hans.
Aric Diamani hosted the show and hosted the event.
Sarika Kansara has won the Special âVoice of New Jerseyâ award for her contribution to the field of music over the past 20 years. It was introduced to him by Lalit Pandit and Padma Shri Dr. Sudhir Parikh, Founder and Chairman of Parikh Worldwide Media and Chairman of ITV Gold. Dr Parikh was also congratulated at the event, awarded with a plaque by Pandit.
Lalit Pandit launched his eldest son on the Meri Aawaz Suno America season 2 platform with his new song “Dil ye mane nahin”, a coming-of-age song about a teenage boy falling in love for the first time.
There was also a RAP song written and sung by 8-year-old Atharva Soni. Meri Awaaz Suno America wants to be the platform for children who love to sing and where the talent speaks for itself.
In the kids category, Srushti Gubbi of Michigan took first place; Manasi Pujari of New Jersey was the 1st finalist; and Shohini Chakraborty of California and Nandan Pujari of New Jersey shared second place.
In the Adult category, Nandan Shastry of New Jersey won first prize; Sahana Harikrishnan of New Jersey won the 1st runner-up; and Sonia Keshwani from Washington won the 2nd finalist award.
Dr Parikh presented the âPt Pratapnarayan Prizeâ with Pandit to Nandan Shastry for the best classical song.
All participants received T-shirts featuring the word âMeri Awaaz Suno Americaâ and other gifts.
The CEO of Jhoom Events thanked all the judges, sponsors, participants and the public for their support and the months of hard work, persistence and patience required to conduct a fair and transparent competition, the press release said. She urged the community to support, sponsor and publicize the initiative.
Parikh Worldwide Media was the big sponsor of the show and will air the episodes on ITV Gold in the coming days.
