Måneskin goes strong with the 2017 cover of “Beggin ‘”
Måneskin’s success with “Beggin ‘” started some time ago. The group first performed the song in 2017 as they participated in the eleventh season of X Factor Italy. They never released it as a single, but it still managed to reach 39th place in the Italian singles chart and a year later the FIMI certified it gold.
After Eurovision, the song found new life on TikTok, which helped it rise to the charts elsewhere. In July, the cover reached number 1 on the Spotify Global charts.
Beggin ‘spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and is currently in 15th place, his top position.
Part of his success in the United States may have been that he has American roots. “Beggin ‘” was popularized in 1967 by the American Franki Valli and his group The Four Seasons. The song was then reworked by artists like French DJ Pilooski and Norwegian hip-hop group Madcon. Musical theater enthusiasts may recognize the song from the Broadway musical Jersey Boys, which concerns the Four Seasons.
